Armed police were deployed to reports that a group of young people with a firearm had been seen boarding a train from Tilbury to Westcliff-on-Sea, Essex. Officers intercepted the group on the seafront esplanade after they got off the train, recovered a BB gun from the group, and arrested a 14-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of possessing an imitation firearm.

A suspected BB gun has been fired at the windows of a hair salon in Crawley Down, West Sussex. When workers came to open up in the morning they discovered three 15mm holes to the main window and one in the door which will cost thousands of pounds to replace along with the cost of installing security cameras.

Police were called after suspected gun shots were heard near a junior school in Liverpool, Merseyside. Officers who were called to investigate the reports stated they believed the noises had been made by fireworks being set off in a nearby park.

Stuart Magee, 50, has been jailed for five-and-a-half years after being found in his car with a nine-millimetre handgun, 14 round of ammunition, and £680 worth of ecstasy, cocaine and ketamine. The former police officer told officers who stopped and searched his vehicle as he was heading into Manchester, that he had confiscated the gun and ammunition from another man who he had driven to a party several days before.

Kevin Clarke has been jailed for 12 weeks for shooting a 14-year-old girl with a BB gun on a street in Swindon, Wiltshire. Clarke took a pot-shot at the victim, hitting her in the arm, in front of two other teenagers. At the time of the attack Clarke was already subject to an anti-social behaviour order which prohibited from being abusive, engaging in threatening behaviour around his home, or causing harassment, alarm, or distress to residents of his neighbourhood. Clarke also pleaded guilty to shooting at his neighbour’s satellites dishes and allowing a friend to wield his gun and fire it into in the street, and actions are being taken to evict him from his property upon his release from prison.

Stephen Scaife and Paul Barrett have been handed eight-month suspended prison sentences and been ordered to pay £125 costs and a £180 crown court charge after pleading guilty to having a bladed article and having a weapon designed or adapted for the discharge of a noxious gas respectively, and both pleading guilty to affray. The pair used a knife and a CS gas canister to threaten staff at a pub in Bacup, Lancashire, after demanding to see the manager at the busy establishment about allegations that their relative had been beaten up there the night before. They also shouted, banged on the bar, and damaged a beer pump. Police were called, found Barrett in possession of the gas canister which they seized, and arrested the pair.

Six road signs on one road have been shot with a suspected air rifle on the Isle of Skye, Highland. Police Scotland said the cost of replacing the damage signs would be considerable.

Luke Wilson has been jailed for four-and-a-half years, and been ordered to pay a £900 court charge and a £120 victim surcharge, for using an imitation firearm to steal prescription drugs and over £500 from two pharmacies in Ashtead and Oxshott, Surrey in a one-week period. He threatened female workers at the pharmacies, brandishing the replica gun, and warning them not to sound the alarm, leaving the victims severely shaken. Police recovered the plastic grip of the gun bearing Wilson’s DNA from near the chemist after the second robbery, and officers also found drugs in a search of his home.

A 55-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possessing an offensive weapon after he was found with an air rifle outside a middle school in Perton, South Staffordshire. Police were called to the scene and the school was placed on lockdown until he was arrested and the air rifle was recovered.

Firearms officers have arrested two men who were seen with an apparent handgun on a scrambler bike by a member of the public in Liverpool, Merseyside. Armed police pursued the pair through the city and along a motorway, including on the wrong side of the road, for about 15 minutes before knocking the riders down in a residential area where children were playing. The pair were taken to hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries before they were arrested on suspicion of possessing a firearm and aggravated vehicle taking. Police also recovered a bag containing a revolver-type gun from the area.
