A university student was hit in the head with a gun during a burglary at a residential property in Egham, Surrey. Three men armed with a knife and a handgun broke into the property, threatened and assaulted the victim. They then used the gun to force the victim's housemates to the ground as they met them returning to the property, before escaping with a laptop, a passport and jewellery. The first victim was taken to hospital for a check-up. Police have not linked the attack to recent muggings of students in the area.

A gun was reportedly brandished during a fight between up to 13 men outside a pub in Blackburn, Lancashire. Armed police were deployed but could not locate the group, which police believed to be comprised of two rival gangs engaged in a pre-arranged fight to settle a previous dispute. Three men were arrested on suspicion of affray but no firearm has been recovered. Following this and other incidents involving dangerous weapons, police launched a weapons amnesty in an attempt to reduce the number of weapons being carried by resident of the town (Lancashire Telegraph, 5 February 2013).

A man armed with gun has attempted to rob a betting shop in Salford, Greater Manchester. He entered the premises holding the gun, and staff were able to go to the back of the shop and call the police, causing the robber to escape in a getaway car. Police have appealed for information.

Two female employees were threatened by two masked robbers brandishing shotguns and hammers at a pawnbroker in Leeds, West Yorkshire. The pair escaped with a number of Rolex watches. No injuries were reported.

A small metal starting pistol, blank pellets and and number of other items have been stolen from a car parked in Long Buckby, Northamptonshire. Police have appealed for information.

Aaron Waite has been jailed for five years for possessing a loaded sawn-off shotgun at a house in Derby. The illegal weapon was discovered during a drug raid hidden in a cardboard box at the property and Waite was arrested. The gun has been identified as a weapon which was stolen in a 2008 burglary of a property in Doncaster.

Mason Jones, 18, has been given a 12-week suspended sentence and a restraining order and been ordered to pay £100 compensation and to do 200 hours' unpaid work after pleading guilty to harassing his former girlfriend in Sale, Greater Manchester. Jones threatened the victim via phone and text message after their relationship ended and told her he had a nine millimetre Beretta pistol which he was going to use to kill her, her family and a man he believed her to be in a new relationship with, and got his friend to corroborate his claims.

A 17-year-old has been jailed for three years for possessing a sawn-off shotgun and two cartridges on a street in Leyton, east London. He and two others were arrested by police who had received a tip-off that the weapon was going to exchange hands and stopped the taxi he got into. The other two teenagers were released on bail.

William Baldwin and Gregory Smith have both pleaded guilty to illegally abstracting electricity to grow 112 cannabis plants at a residential property in Ludlow, Shropshire.  Smith has also pleaded guilty to possessing a stun gun.

Vaseem Manzoor has had his jail sentence for having an illegal starting pistol modified to fire, blank ammunition and counterfeit currency reduced from five years to a year by the Court of Appeal. There were considered to be exceptional circumstances to avoid the minimum five-year term because he had handed the gun over to police during a search of his property in Hinksey Hill, Oxfordshire and it was accepted that the he had picked up the weapon, which had not been fired, in order to dispose of it.
