Ifzan Ishtiaq has been jailed for five years for possession of a prohibited firearm. Ishtiag helped provide a sawn-off shotgun to an undercover police officer in Bradford in November 2010. Ishtiaq's co-accused Raja Hanif was jailed for nine years at a prior hearing after dealing drugs to officers and recruiting Ishtiaq, who was addicted to multiple drugs, to obtain and sell the shotgun.


Liverpool Echo

Two armed men threatened and attempted to rob a taxi driver in Liverpool. The pair apparently produced a handgun to force the victim to relinquish his cash, but a struggle ensued and the robbers fled without any money. The driver was left with the gun, which he promptly turned in to police.

Police raided a series of locations across London believed to be crack houses as part of an ambitious new operation designed to combat drug trade and burglaries. On the morning of 8 June, efforts across the city secured 32 arrests for firearms or drug offences and police recovered three sawn-off shotguns as well as a revolver.

A woman was shot in the face with a BB gun in Berwick, Northumberland. She suffered a cut below her eye and bruising after apparently being shot by two youths who she had scolded for shooting at seagulls. Two boys aged 14 and 16 were arrested on suspicion of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, and a 10-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of a public order offence.

Police used a taser gun to paralyse a man who was stabbing himself in a Watford shopping centre. Officers found the man bloody and in need of urgent medical care after he had attacked himself in the chest with a knife. After negotiating with the man police had elected to disarm him through the use of the stun gun.

The same day that a similar incident took place ('Watford Observer, 9 June 2011'), a two-year community order was given to Michael Tierney for an incident in March in which police used a taser gun to paralyse him after Tierney had stabbed himself in Middlesbrough and threatened to kill himself. He had attacked himself in the wake of a break-up, having also theatened his ex-girlfriend via text message, smashed a window of her home and threatened her new partner in November 2010.

Michael Curran and Terry March have been jailed for 11 years for grievous bodily harm with intent, and Philip Croney has been jailed for one year and nine months for conspiracy to commit violent disorder. The trio conspired to shoot a man in the leg outside his home in North Tyneside in August 2010 with a 9-year-old girl within a few feet. The victim and his friend had apparently intended to fist-fight the shooters, but the impending brawl escalated to a shooting when Curran opened fire with a semi-automatic handgun. After unloading several shots the perpetrators retreated to their vehicle, then shot and struck their victim before driving off.

Police seized four firearms in the past week in Wolverhampton. They arrested a man and woman after finding a shotgun and ammunition in their home; arrested a 19-year-old on suspicion of burglary and found drugs and a shotgun in his home; arrested a 20-year-old man after finding a loaded pistol on him as well as drugs when they encountered him in a domestic dispute with a woman; and found a shotgun hidden in bushes after receiving a tip.

Two armed men robbed bookmakers in Nottingham. The pair apparently threatened staff with an imitation firearm before fleeing with cash. A pair of suspects have been identified and arrested, police said.

Shots were fired in Birmingham's city centre. Police said no one was injured and they had arrested a man on suspicion of his involvement.
