A firearm and ammunition were found during targeted raids in Greenwich, south east London, on criminal networks involved in the supply of drugs which resulted in 51 people being arrested.

A pet cat has been shot with an airgun in Hinckley, Leicestershire.  His owner found him bleeding from a wound in his leg.  X-rays revealed there was a pellet in his back.  He is recovering but is now quite nervous and very jumpy.

Two men who helped Raoul Moat stay on the run after he shot three people, one fatally, on Tyneside in July 2010 have been convicted of a number of offences.  Karl Ness was convicted of murder and both he and Qhuram Awan were found guilty of conspiracy to murder, attempted murder and robbery of a chip shop.  Ness was also convicted of possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life.  Ness will serve at least 40 years in jail before he can apply for parole and Awan will serve a minimum of 20 years (Press Association, 15 March 2011).

Andrew Tweedy has been jailed for six years for his part in an armed robbery in Longbenton, Tyneside, in May 2010 (see Incidents).  He had allowed the robbers to borrow his imitation handgun.  He was in breach of a suspended sentence imposed for another offence.  He admitted conspiracy to rob and possession of a firearm with intent.

A cache of weapons was stolen from a house in Nether Whitacre, Warwickshire, during a burglary.  Two shotguns were stolen together with other items.  In a linked incident which took place in February a deactivated rifle was among items stolen from a home in Tamworth, Staffordshire.

A man from Radcliffe, Greater Manchester, who pleaded guilty to possessing a Taser stun gun and police-style batons will go on trial over the basis of his pleas.  The man was on trial with another man who has been convicted over a number of drug offences.  The pair were alleged to have driven to Bradford where the drugs were found.

Garri Burrell who was caught with cocaine in his car has admitted possession with intent to supply and four charges relating to weapons found in a raid on a property in Easton, Bristol.  Police found a stun gun and replica weapons. He also have live ammunition for a firearm without a certificate (Evening Post (Bristol), 12 March 2011).

Police are investigating an incident in which a teacher at a school in Leyburn, North Yorkshire, was shot in the back with an air rifle by a pupil.  One witness said that the shot nearly hit a six-year-old girl standing next to the teacher.  The witness was concerned that the incident was being "brushed under the carpet".

Shots were fired at a house in Aigburth Vale, Liverpool, damaging the door.  Nobody was injured.  Police believe the gunman may have targeted the wrong house.
