A man described as a country sports enthusiast illegally bought a rifle and prohibited dum-dum bullets at a market in Leek, Staffordshire, in January 2010.  Darren Shiels was investigated by the RSPCA and the weapon and ammunition, together with a stun gun, were found in his garden shed in Tamworth.  Shiels had never held a firearms certificate but had been legally shooting rabbits, pigeons and other vermin on a friend's land with an air rifle.  He admitted illegally possessing the ammunition, the rifle and the stun gun and was jailed for two years.

A stun gun and heroin were seized during a series of raids in the Heasandford area of Burnley, Lancashire.  A number of people were detained.

Two guns disguised as pens were seized by police during raids at the homes of two teenage gang members in Leytonstone and Walthamstow, north east London.  One of them was also held on drugs offences and for handling stolen goods.

A man seen leaving his house in Haxby, York, with a shotgun was later found dead in his car by his partner.  He died from a gunshot wound to his head.  An inquest has been opened and adjourned.

A man shot himself because he could "no longer stand" his worsening health.  He was found beside a double-barrelled shotgun in his garden in Didcot, Oxfordshire, in September 2010.  The coroner concluded he had taken his own life.

Two men allegedly threatened staff at a newsagent in Wollaton, Nottingham, with a handgun.  They grabbed the till which was later found empty nearby.  A 17-year-old has been arrested.
