Five members of a burglary gang from Merseyside have been jailed after they pleaded guilty to conspiring to commit burglary and aggravated burglary.  They smashed their way into houses and terrified their victims with knives, swords, sledgehammers, machetes, chisels and a shotgun.  Craig Murphy, 19, Gary Moffatt, 22, Jason Nee, 21, Anthony Akins, 19, and Jamie Williams, 18 are starting a combined 40 years in prison.  In one break-in in St Helens a shotgun was fired.  The Attorney General is expected to decide whether he considers the sentences, which were between seven and ten years, to be unduly lenient (St Helens Star, 17 February 2011).
