A cat has had to be put to sleep after she was attacked with an air weapon in Peterlee, County Durham.  She was found injured near her home.  A pellet had struck near her spine.

Richard Jackson shot his partner in the leg during a drunken assault.  The attack happened when he returned drunk to their home in Tamworth, Staffordshire.  He threw two punches at her and then ran upstairs to get his air rifle to find her cornered in the back garden.  He has admitted assault causing actual bodily harm, criminal damage and cultivating cannabis and been jailed for two years.

A 16-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of firearms offences after a series of raids in Fazakerley, Croxteth and Norris Green, Liverpool.  No further action will be taken against the teenager.  The police seized three blank-firing handguns during the raids (Liverpool Echo, 13 August 2010).

Reece Smith and Ashley Burns have been jailed for their part in an armed robbery at the house of Smith's estranged uncle in Sharples, Lancashire, in February 2009.  Three men attacked the victim as Smith kept lookout.  The men believed they would find £20,000 in a safe which only contained personal documents.  One of the robbers left an imitation gun inside the house.   Burns pleaded guilty to robbery and possession of an imitation firearm and was sentenced to five years and four months, Smith pleaded guilty to robbery and was sentenced to six years and eight months.  The other two men have not been caught.

Jordan McKenna has admitted a number of offences after he stole weapons from a gun shop in Christchurch, Dorset, in April 2010 (see Incidents).  Five revolvers, three shotguns and an air rifle were recovered from a getaway car.  He admitted burglary, driving while disqualified, aggravated vehicle taking and possessing firearms at the time of his arrest and has been jailed for six years.

A cat is fighting for his life after being shot in Verwood, Dorset.  An air rifle pellet punctured his kidney, stomach and spleen.  The pet is now recovering well after thousands of pounds' worth of treatment (Salisbury Journal, 11 September 2010).

An 18-year-old woman is thought to have been accidentally shot with an air rifle in the garden of a house in Peterborough.  She was stable in hospital.  Another woman was arrested in connection with the incident.

Shots were fired in a street in Stoke Newington, east London, causing damage to a parked car.

David Sieni beat up a minicab driver and dragged him from his vehicle at gunpoint before stealing the vehicle.  The attack took place in Anerley, south London, in December 2009.  He was found guilty of robbery and possession of an imitation firearm with intent and given a 13 year prison sentence.


Northampton Chronicle & Echo

A cannabis factory and an unlicensed gas-powered pellet gun were discovered by police in raids on two houses in Rectory Farm, Northampton.  The officers confiscated the weapon after the owner voluntarily gave it up.
