A man has appeared in court charged with the murder of an Army sergeant who was shot in the head as he walked from an Army careers office to his car in Derby in April 1992.

Police used a Taser to force a man to lay down a gun after he refused to do so.  The incident took place close to a primary school in Wigmore, Kent.  It is believed the weapon was an imitation gun.

A family are fleeing their home in Moorside, Greater Manchester, after an airgun attack.  Shots were fired on their home and car.  It is the latest in a string of incidents for the family who claim they have also received threats on the telephone and via social networking sites.

John McPhee has admitted stealing groceries from a shop in Balloch, West Dunbartonshire, in March 2010.  He threatened to shoot a shop worker in the face with a gas-powered BB gun.  He has been jailed for 40 months.


Weston, Worle & Somerset Mercury

A man has been warned by police after killing a squirrel in a park in Weston-super-Mare, Somerset, by shooting an air rifle from his window.  The squirrel was seen to fall from a tree and was found with a pellet embedded.  The shots were being fired just yards from a children's play area.  The police were unable to prosecute because a witness would not give a statement.

A cat has died after being shot with a pellet gun three times in the space of a year.  Her owner from Bromley, south east London, is warning other cat owners to be on their guard.

A police investigation was launched after residents in a street in Glasgow reported hearing gunshots.

A man was discovered with a gunshot wound to his left foot in Forest Gate, east London.  He was taken to hospital where he remained in a stable condition.

Mark Houlgrave threatened a Chinese takeaway worker in Whitebirk, Lancashire, with an imitation handgun in August 2009 and demanded she put money in a bag.  He fled with a small amount of cash.  He has been jailed for four years after pleading guilty to robbery and possession of an imitation firearm.

Karl Walls has been jailed for 21 months after admitting assault.  He pulled an airgun on a man who had just returned to Newcastle and fired five pellets into his arm.  He then poked fun at his victim on Facebook.  It was claimed that the violence was sparked by an unpaid debt.
