A shotgun and ammunition were found in a rucksack on disused land in Liverpool, Merseyside. Police recovered the gun and cartridges for forensic examination.

Alan McNeill has been jailed for four years and three months and Hayley Sudlow has been jailed for three years and 10 months for the robbery of a shop in Llanrhaeadr-ym-Mochnant, Powys. McNeill pointed the silver replica gun at the lone shop worker and demanded he open the till, but the victim realised the gun was an imitation and refused, leading McNeill to escape with just the two bottles of alcohol he was holding in a getaway van driven by Sudlow. It later emerged that McNeill had stolen the gun from a Wild West enthusiast who collected cowboy themed memorabilia such as the replica Colt 45 revolver used in the robbery.

Jordan Anderson, 19, has been jailed for three years in a young offenders’ institution after an attempted armed robbery of an off-licence in Stock, Essex. He threatened the owner with an imitation BB gun, but the victim refused and he escaped on foot without taking anything. The teenager had been released from a young offenders' institution just six weeks before this attempt, which he carried out in an attempt to pay off his £1,400 drug debt for which he had been stabbed and had his nose broken in an assault since his release. Although he had his face and head covered during the robbery attempt, Anderson was identified from CCTV footage, and arrested at his grandmother’s house where he had been living.

Philip Brown, 63, has been fined £400 for leaving his licensed semi-automatic shotgun unsecured and failing to prevent unauthorised people from accessing it in Forres, Moray. Brown left the gun by the side of the road while packing up to drive home after travelling from his home in Sussex to shoot wild geese flying over the Scottish bay. He drove all the way to Glasgow before realising he had left the gun behind, by which time another shooter noticed the unloaded shotgun in the lay-by and handed it in to local police from where Brown retrieved it and was charged with breaching the terms of his shotgun licence.

Two men threatened the occupants of a house in Hoyland, South Yorkshire with weapons which included an apparent firearm during the robbery of the property. The assailants escaped with cash in a getaway vehicle.

Kevin Hodges has been jailed for six years for using an imitation gun to hold up a bank in Cambridge, Cambridgeshire. He kept the replica gun which he had reportedly found in the bin in a bag, intimating to staff that it was real, and escaped with £15,000 of cash. However Hodges was chased and tackled by a member of the public while cycling away from the scene, who held him on the ground until police arrived to arrest him. The bank employees were left traumatised by the robbery.

Jack Blower has been jailed for 10 months and an additional six weeks of a previous suspended sentence after pleading guilty to possessing an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear and breaching a suspended prison sentence imposed for battery. Blower threatened the owner of an off licence in Atherton, Greater Manchester with a toy gun after the shopkeep refused to let him purchase items on credit. He pointed the gun at the victim, cocked it, threatened to shoot him in the head, as well as making abusive and racist comments. Blower then pointed the weapon at another customer in the shop before leaving the premises.

Firearms officers have recovered a gun during the investigation into the stabbing of a 21-year-old man in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire. The car driven by the suspected armed attackers was traced and armed police searched several addresses and arrested four people. A 17-year-old has been charged with inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent.

Remele Bryan has been jailed for six years after pleading guilty to possessing an illegal firearm and ammunition in Birmingham, West Midlands. Armed police discovered the loaded nine-millimetre Baikal self-loading pistol in Bryan’s bag when they stopped his car which had been flagged by number plate recognition cameras.

A man and a woman were arrested after police found a handgun and ammunition and suspected drugs in the search of a house in Halewood, Merseyside. The man was charged with drug offences and possession of the firearm and ammunition, while the woman was released on bail.
