Graeme Lee Brown has been given a conditional discharge and ordered to pay £85 costs and forfeit his air rifle for destruction after he shot down a pigeon while testing the weapon at his home in Spennymoor, County Durham. The soldier admitted unlawfully firing the gun beyond the boundaries of his own garden but claimed not have known he had hit the bird. Police were contacted after Brown's neighbours found the shot pigeon on their driveway and saw him with the airgun.

Scott Park has been found guilty of having an imitation weapon in breach of the Firearms Act for being in possession of a bright orange plastic gun in public in Stirling. The homeless man had the gun in his pocket while sitting on the street outside a closed bank. A teenage girl asked Park why he had the weapon and when he replied that it was for use if people refused to give him money, she alerted the police and he was detained.

A 21-year-old man was beaten up during an incident in which a gun was reportedly fired on a street in Salford, Greater Manchester. The victim suffered cuts and bruises during the assault, and told the paramedics who treated him that a firearm had been discharged.

The body of a man and a gun have been found outside a police station in Harrogate, North Yorkshire. The man in his 60s has not yet been identified but police were not said to be searching for anyone else in connection with his death.

A two-year-old cat has been shot dead with an air rifle just outside her home in Scarning, Norfolk. She was shot in the chest, and the pellet broke her pelvis and severed her spine.

Paul Swale has been jailed for five years, and Hattie O’Neill and John Swale have been sentenced to two years in a young offenders' institution, for keeping a home-made pistol at O'Neill's house where Paul Swale lived in Liverpool, Merseyside. The gun was discovered after Paul Swale was seen smoking cannabis and chased to the property where his brother was attempting to dispose of a bag containing a machete, a knuckle duster, £180 cash, £3,500 of cannabis, the gun and blank ammunition. In the house police found a further £1,700 of hidden cash and two cannabis plants, and O'Neill and John Swale were also arrested.

Tomasz Szymanski has been jailed for 18 months for threatening two men with an air pistol outside a nightclub in Shrewsbury, Shropshire. He swore at people, held the unloaded weapon against the head of one of the victims and threatened to shoot the other in the chest. He was later arrested at his home and claimed he had taken the gun to the club in order to impress people.

John Abela and soldier Kyle Garth have pleaded guilty to attempted robbery and possession of a firearm with intent to commit robbery, and Ashley O'Neill has been found guilty of the same offences after they robbed a man at gunpoint in Preston, Lancashire. Joanne Catterall, Garth's girlfriend, has pleaded guilty to assisting an offender after the three men went to the victim's flat and Garth fired a bullet through the window in an unsuccessful attempt to rob the occupant. They escaped but were caught on CCTV and crashed Garth's car nearby shortly after the attack.

A man has died from severe burns after he was a shot with a taser gun by a police officer while covered in flammable liquid at an address in Plymouth, Devon. Officers were called to the house after the 32-year-old was seen holding a can of flammable liquid in the garden of the property. A taser was deployed and he suffered serious burns, and although he was taken to hospital he died five days later from his injuries. The Independent Police Complaints Commission has begun an investigation into the incident.

An air rifle has reportedly been fired at four moving trains near Finsbury Park, east London. One of the shots allegedly injured a passenger when it smashed through a window, and the service was also disrupted during the evening rush hour.
