A man was threatened by a man with a gun during an attempted robbery on a street in Chatham, Kent. The assailant approached the man and asked the time before flashing the weapon but the victim was able to kick out at his attacker and escape.

Armed police were deployed after reports of shotguns being fired on disused land in Colne, Lancashire. The officers searched the area and reported that the shooters involved had been engaged in lawful activities.

Thomas Seath has pleaded guilty to possessing a gun and a silencer at his former flat in Dalkeith, Midlothian. The weapon was recovered after police obtained a warrant to search the flat because Seath was seen attempting to access the property using a ladder despite being told that it had been rendered dangerous by a fire in the building and boarded up.

Barry Haydon has been jailed for 12 months for possessing an Enfield revolver, an air rifle and ammunition at his home in Burford, Oxfordshire. The weapons were recovered during an investigation into a 2010 plot to smuggle £50 million of cannabis into the UK, in which Haydon's involvement was minor. The 69-year-old avoided the five-year statutory minimum sentence for possession of a prohibited firearm because he is suffering from cancer and is only expected to live for five years.

Jeffrey Ashfield has been given a six-month suspended sentence and been ordered to do 150 hours of unpaid work for threatening two bailiffs with a shotgun at his home in Sissinghurst, Kent. The bailiffs were refused access to the property when they came to enforce a writ for £1.1 million after a civil case involving Ashfield, but entered through a gap in the hedge. They were then allowed into the house but began listing items for seizure and Ashfield armed himself with the shotgun. The bailiffs called the police and Ashfield was arrested.

A cat has been shot in the head with an airgun near his home in Sheffield, South Yorkshire. The three-year-old pet survived the attack.

Police seized a loaded firearm from a parked vehicle in Renfrew and arrested two men in their 20s in connection with the discovery.

An 18-year-old man has been arrested and charged after he allegedly used an imitation firearm to rob a taxi driver in Slough, Berkshire.

A 19-year-old university student was shot dead and his 32-year-old brother was shot in the shoulder when three brothers were attacked in their car outside a store in Clapton, east London. The victim was shot in the head but his injured brother managed to drive away from their two attackers and he was taken to hospital, but died a few hours later. His elder brother remained in hospital for treatment of non life-threatening gunshot wounds. Police stated that they believed the attack to have been a case of mistaken identity.

Paul Swalwell, a former army medic from Scarborough, North Yorkshire has been handed an eight-month suspended sentence for possessing parts of a military assault rifle and 99 rounds of ammunition in the loft of his former home. Police recovered the bullets and gun parts when Swallwell's ex-wife brought them to the attention of police when the couple separated.
