Two men in their 30s were arrested after reports of gunfire in Bottesford, Leicestershire. Both men were later released, but one of them received a police caution.

Jewellery and an air rifle were stolen in a burglary of a home in Forncett St Peter, Norfolk. A vehicle is believed to have been used to reach the rural property and police have appealed for information about any one driving in the area.

Karl Lawrence has been jailed for seven years for carrying out to armed robberies in the space of a month at the same bookmakers in Dagenham, east London. He pointed a gun at an elderly cashier and threatened to shoot him during the first robbery and threatened a female worker with a large knife during the second, escaping with £1,500 in total. Staff were left shaken but uninjured.

Oliver O’Toole has been given an 18-month community order after he was found in possession of a taser at his home in Burton-upon-Trent, Staffordshire. Armed officers recovered the weapon from the property after O'Toole's girlfriend reported it to police after a disagreement between the couple. Despite initially claiming that the weapon was his own to protect its owner's identity, and having recently completed a suspended sentence for a violent offence, O'Toole was not given a custodial sentence.

Matthew Saunders has pleaded guilty to possessing a live shotgun cartridge while prohibited because of previous offences, driving dangerously and without insurance in an incident in which he was chased and tasered by police after he failed to stop when requested in Trowbridge, Wiltshire. He drove hazardously away from officers for 26 miles in the dark wearing a crash helmet until he reached a dead end and had to stop. He continued to resist arrest and officers used a taser to subdue him.

Former MP, Lord Tyler has publicly requested information about how the House of Lords rifle range in the basement of the Palace of Westminster, London is funded and how security of the the weapons used there are maintained. House of Parliament authorities replied that the cost of the range was impossible to calculate but that the range uses minimal lighting and only incurs costs "in respect of that percentage of general estate costs which is paid for by the house". No reply was given in response to concerns Lord Tyler raised about the security of having weapons inside the otherwise tightly guarded building.

Dean Hogbin has been jailed for 30 months for an attempted burglary in which he threatened to shoot the resident when she chased him from her home in Oulton Broad, Suffolk. Hogbin was spotted by the owner on her return and she got into her car and pursued him as he fled from the property. He threatened to shoot her with a gun and escaped but was later arrested.

A 50-year-old man has died during an attempt to rob a bookmaker's in Plymouth, Devon using an imitation pistol. The man entered the shop wearing a gas-mask and brandished the gun at staff, but was tackled and restrained by a number of customers. When police arrived to arrest him, he was discovered to be unconscious. Resuscitation was attempted, but he was declared dead at the scene. He is reported to have been suffering from a lung condition, and drink and drug problems. Police have begun an investigation and voluntarily referred the incident to the Independent Police Complaints Commission in accordance with standard procedure.

An inquest has found that Derrick Vassell, 43, was shot "in the course of a domestic incident" before his ex-partner Clare Sly, 39, fatally shot herself in the chest with a sawn-off shotgun that was not registered to either party at her house in Walsall, West Midlands. Sly was found to have shot her ex and father of her three children after he sent her over 160 threatening text messages in one day at the culmination of 25 years of physical and emotional abuse she was subjected to by Vassell.
