Police recovered a pistol when they raided a woman's home in Liverpool. The 23-year-old is alleged to have plotted with two men and she has been charged with conspiracy to possess firearms with intent to endanger life.

A cat lost an eye after being shot with an air gun in Hucknall, Nottingham. Vets were apparently able to save his life because they operated immediately, but had to remove his left eye due to the pellet wound.

Tyrell Goather, 22, and Helal Miah, 17, have been jailed for five years and three years, respectively, after being found guilty of firearm possession. They hid a sub-machine gun and ammunition in a children's playground in Hackney, east London, which police found along with a knife and balaclava.

Michael Dunphy and Daniel Jones have been jailed for 11 years and 10 years, respectively, after helping a drugs kingpin arrange for a man to be killed. The victim, who was murdered in East Lancashire, reportedly had a large amount of cocaine that drug lord Paul Devalda wanted to steal. Devalda was jailed for life earlier this year after being convicted of kidnap and murder. Dunphy and Jones were jailed after admitting manslaughter and conspiracy to kidnap.

A man was shot in the chest and abdomen in Langley, Slough, and taken to hospital. Police charged another man with possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life and two counts of attempted murder. Two men have been charged with two counts of attempted murder and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life (BBC News, 16 November 2011).

A man was arrested in Belford, Northumberland and charged with possession of a firearm without holding a firearms certificate. He allegedly was sent an air weaponby his mother, who lives in the U.S., but customs intercepted it.

An armed man held up a store in Larkhall, Lanarkshire, but the shopkeeper fought him off. The attacker escaped on foot empty-handed, but still in possession of the gun.

Steven Cardwell has been jailed for at least 11 years for helping gun runner Steven Greenoe smuggle firearms into the UK. Cardwell was given an indeterminate jail sentence in Liverpool after being convicted of conspiracy to import, sell and possess prohibited firearms with intent to endanger life. He helped Greenoe smuggle at least 63 guns into the UK, of which police have only recovered 10.

Five teenage boys aged 13 to 16 have been jailed 18 months each after carrying out an armed robbery in Southampton. The boys, apparently model students doing GCSEs, threatened a shopkeeper with an antique air gun. They each admitted robbery and were sent to a young offenders institution.
