Barry Fitzsimmons, a former British soldier accused of murdering two colleagues in Iraq, had pulled a gun on children while at his home in Rochdale, Lancashire. In April 2009 he was convicted of a public order offence after he pulled a flare gun and fired it in the air. Also, in November 2008, he had been given a suspended sentence for firearms offences after being found in possession of prohibited ammunition, believed to be 5.5mm tapered NATO issue bullets.

Two men wearing Halloween masks, one of whom was thought to have been carrying a handgun robbed a bookmakers in Bradford. Two female workers were left shaken but were uninjured.

A shop worker at a Northampton holiday park was threatened by a robber who put a handgun to his head and said he would "blow his head off". The victim was forced to hand over £150 before the robber ran off.

During drugs raids Merseyside Police officers arrested 11 people at addresses in Anfield, Maghull, Bootle, Kirkby and Norris Green on suspicion of committing a variety of offences including possession of a shotgun.

Salim Razaq, a police officer from Walton-le-Dale, Lancashire, helped his gangster brother by hiding weapons and intimidating witnesses. He pleaded guilty to perverting the course of justice, possessing firearms and ammunition and misconduct in a public office. When his home was raided in March 2010 (see Incidents) a Sten machine gun and two Uzi machine guns were found hidden under the stairs. Other items including 228 bullets were seized. In the same case a prisoner, Louis Bamber, admitted possession of a firearm.

Armed police were called to a house in Millfield, Peterborough, after a man threatened to shoot officers trying to arrest him. He claimed to have firearms but none were found in the house after the man had been removed.

A 67-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possessing a firearm without a licence, and a 16-year-old and a 14-year-old were arrested on suspicion of stealing over 150 pheasants in a one-month period from farms in Faversham, Kent. They were arrested after police searched a number of a properties and recovered a rifle, a pistol, two airguns and a crossbow.
