Paul Duncan, aged 55, has been handed a five-year prison term after admitting to nine firearm offences. In August last year, police officers stopped Duncan’s car in Glasgow, Scotland and found him in possession of a self-loading pistol and ammunition. A search of his home resulted in the seizure of six more pistols, a revolver and packs of ammunition. The court heard that the guns, originally designed to fire blanks, had been converted.

Jamie Bowers pointed an imitation pistol at the head of a shopkeeper in Meir Heath, Staffordshire, in July 2007 before stealing £70.  He had been ordered to carry out the robbery to try and repay a debt to Scott Clegg and Spencer Rushton.  Earlier this year Rushton and Clegg were convicted of robbery and possessing an imitation firearm with intent to commit an offence and had been given four year terms.  Rushton received a further three months for possessing a stun gun.  Following an appeal their sentences have been increased to six years and three months for Rushton and five years for Clegg.  Bowers was jailed for 18 months and his sentence was left unchanged.

A 14-year-old and an older man have appeared in court charged with trespassing on land with a firearm and firing a .22 calibre Norica air rifle beyond the boundaries of the premises.  The man also pleaded not guilty to assaulting two men.  The offences are all alleged to have been committed on farmland in Aspatria, Cumbria.

Two men are being treated in hospital for serious injuries after being shot on a street in Smethwick, West Midlands. Witnesses described hearing shouting before a “volley of gunshots” were fired. Two men have since been arrested on suspicion of violent disorder.

A man is recovering after being shot in the shoulder in Southfields, south London.  His injuries were described as non life-threatening.

A woman was allegedly shot in the face with a BB gun as she walked her dogs in St Helens, Merseyside. On feeling a sudden sharp pain in her forehead, the woman thought she had been hit by a stone; doctors later confirmed she had been shot. The women reported the incident to the police and an officer suggested that there had been similar recent attacks in the area.

A robber reportedly brandished what appeared to be a blue handgun wrapped in a bin bag and demanded money from a member of staff at a shop in Bletchingley, Surrey, before fleeing on foot. No one was injured during the incident. Police released CCTV images of the suspect and appealed for information.

A 24-year-old man died in hospital after he was shot in the street in Leeds, West Yorkshire. Emergency services were called to the scene where the victim was found to have suffered head injuries. Two men have since been arrested on suspicion of murder and a woman has been detained on suspicion of assisting an offender. A police spokesperson said that the victim was “deliberately targeted”.
