A man has been arrested after reports of someone firing an air rifle at members of the public in Stoke-on-Trent.  The gun was being fired from a bedroom window (The Sentinel, 1 April 2011).

Marian Mis from Morecambe, Lancashire, pointed an imitation gun at a man using a cashpoint machine.  He said he found the weapon in a local park.

Michael Sutherland has been found guilty of repeatedly firing a rifle at a shooting party who were hunting geese near his farm in Foveran, Aberdeenshire, in October 2009 (see Incidents).  He exposed four men to the risk of serious injury or death, and the lives of four others were also endangered.  Sutherland also admitted a charge of possessing around 230 more rounds of ammunition than he was licensed for.   He has "no intention" of renewing his firearm licence or continuing to shoot on his land.  His .243 rifle and ammunition have been seized.

Five paintball attacks occurred in Greater Manchester in one day.  In Leigh one victim was hit in the stomach by a pellet fired from a car.  In Golborne a woman was hit in the back, a bus was hit on its windscreen, a teenager was shot at and two boys were targeted in another attack.  Two men were arrested on suspicion of assault and possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear or violence.

Two security guards were threatened with a gun as they filled a cashpoint at a store in South Harrow, north west London.  A gang of three men were involved and they ran off with a cash box which contained a small amount of money.

A five-year-old girl and a man were seriously injured in a shooting at a shop in Stockwell, south London.  The victims, who were not related, were in a critical but stable condition.  Two youths had been chased into the store by three others and whilst the pair hid their rivals opened fire hitting the innocent victims (Telegraph, 30 March 2011).  A 19-year-old was has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder (BBC, 1 April 2011)

Neil Martin has pleaded guilty to the attempted murder of his brother-in-law in Uplawmoor, Renfrewshire, in November 2009 (see Incidents).  The shooting followed an argument about the best way to get home from a party.  The victim was walking when he was shot in the leg with a shotgun by Martin who was in a car being driven by a former partner.  Sentencing was deferred.

Stuart Wardle shot a boy in Halifax, West Yorkshire, with an air rifle in December 2010.  The 16-year-old victim was walking with a group of friends when they passed Wardle wearing a camouflage jacket and carrying what looked like a real rifle.  After they had walked on Wardle fired the gun at them hitting the victim in the hip.  He has admitted possession of an imitation firearm and assault occasioning actual bodily harm and been jailed for two years and eight months.  The incident happened five days after Wardle was sentenced to a community order for battery.

Kevin Fitzsimons pulled out a Smith and Wesson revolver following a minor dispute at a pub in Sale, Greater Manchester, in September 2010.  He had bought the weapon several weeks earlier but the spring wasn't working and it would not have fired.  He admitted possessing a prohibited firearm with intent to cause fear of violence and also possessing a prohibited weapon, a CS canister.  He has been jailed for 20 months.
