A Freedom of Information request has revealed that at least 21 beavers found dead across Tayside were shot dead by landowners in the area. Two of the animals were heavily pregnant when killed and another two had just given birth. One of the animal was killed with lead shot, although it is illegal to use lead shot to kill animals in water. It was also reported that some of the animals may not have been killed humanely, but may have taken a long time to die from their wounds. There is currently no legal protection for beavers in Scotland, but the matter is under consideration by the government.
