Police recovered a BB gun from a hole in a wall after it was found by a man as he was putting money into a parking meter on a street in Brighton, East Sussex.

An employee was threatened by a man wearing a boiler suit and armed with a gun during the robbery of a newsagents in Glasgow. The assailant demanded money and escaped with a three-figure sum of cash and cigarettes.

Two boys aged 16 and 17 been given an eight-month detention training orders which include four months in custody, and another 17-year-old boy has been handed a 12-month youth rehabilitation order with 30 hours of unpaid work and been ordered to pay £135 costs and a £15 victim surcharge after the trio pleaded guilty to possessing an imitation firearm in a public place in Stoke-on-Trent, Staffordshire. They were arrested after they walked through a busy shopping centre in the town carrying two realistic imitation handguns one of which they held as though ready to fire it, and armed police were called to the scene by a member of the public. During their arrest and officer drew a Taser on the teenagers, and one of the BB guns was recovered from one of their bags and the other from a nearby bin where it had been discarded.

A 23-year-old shopkeeper was shot in the leg by a man with a gun during the robbery of a store in Glasgow. When the assailant demanded money and cigarettes, the victim told him take what he wanted from the till, but the robber pointed the gun at the victim’s chest and fired. The first shot was a blank, but he fired another shot which injured the victim’s leg, before again demanding the cash from the till. The shopkeeper required an emergency operation for the wound to his leg.

An 18-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of possession of firearm without certificate, possession of an offensive weapon, and assault after an incident in which three men armed with a knife and a gun were seen chasing another man through Bootle, Merseyside. Police were called to the scene and chased one of the pursuers on foot, before locating him on the roof of a property. He came down after talking to police negotiators and arrested. Officers also recovered a lock knife, a loaded self-loading pistol, and balaclavas from the garden of another property.

A shotgun has been fired at the front door of a house in Haydock, Merseyside. Police were deployed after a report of a loud bang, and found damage caused by a shotgun from what is believed to have been a targeted attack.

A robber with a firearm entered a Post Office in Maryport, Cumbria and threatened three workers including a 78-year-old woman with whom he was involved in a struggle. The victims were left distressed but not physically injured. Armed police were called to the scene but did not locate the suspect.

A shotgun and around 70 cartridges, thousands of pounds worth of jewellery and cash, iPads, a mobile phone, and a games console have all been stolen from a house in Kingswinford, West Midlands. The shotgun is missing the forearm component and so cannot be fired, but it still has the appearance of an operational firearm.

Montgomery Richard Kyle Byrne has been jailed for six years after admitting nine firearms offences. He was arrested after he attempted to collect a Glock nine millimetre self-loading pistol and 300 rounds of ammunition from a motorway services near Stone, Staffordshire in exchange that he had illegally purchased for £1,300 from a site on the dark web, a part of the Internet that is hidden from the general public because it requires specific software, configurations or authorisation to access. Police subsequently recovered a sniper rifle; a sawn-off shotgun; a revolver; ammunition including cartridges and illegal bullets made to explode on impact; and components for producing ammunition including an ammunition press, firearms powder, bullet heads and percussion caps from his home in Bury, Greater Manchester. The investigation into Byrne’s online activity leading to his arrest also revealed that he had unsuccessfully tried to buy an AK-47 assault rifle from the same website.

A 16-year-old boy has been given a youth rehabilitation order with intensive supervision and surveillance and a six-month tagged curfew after police found a prohibited Brocock .22 air calibre revolver with six cartridges in his bedroom at his home in Teesside. He avoided a three year sentence in youth custody due to exceptional circumstances including the fact that his family had been victims of serious domestic violence as as a result of which he had had to move into refuges and several different homes and take on adult caring responsibilities. He reportedly acquired the non-functional gun and cartridges after he was given it by someone he knew who had found it some bushes, and only one of the cartridges was able to be fired.
