An armed robber held up a shop assistant in Edinburgh. The perpetrator apparently waited until the woman was working alone before entering and threatening her with a gun, then leaving with a large sum of cash.

A rare peregrine falcon was put down in Aberdeen after shotgun injuries it sustained weeks earlier proved too much to overcome. A dog walker had discovered the injured falcon in late April.

A three-year-old cat was shot and killed in York. After being shot twice, poisoned and hit by a car in the last two years, he was finally done in by this latest attack. With an air gun pellet lodged in his torso, he reportedly succumbed to a painful death after his liver failed days after the shooting.

A licenced shotgun owner fired at burglars who stole a safe from his wife's fishing store in Bedfordshire. The man reportedly had hoped to halt the car until police arrived but missed his shot at the tyres and hit the front of the vehicle, which then sped away.

Two women were shot with a BB gun in Banbury, Oxfordshire. A 16-year-old girl was hit in the chest and another woman was shot in the jaw while driving. Police said both suffered pain but no serious injuries.

Two teenage boys were shot and killed in Milton Keynes, Buckinghamshire. The pair were reportedly shot in the head at close range by handguns. The victims were 18 and 19 years old.

Police have arrested a man and teenage boy in connection with the attempted murder and kidnap of a Huddersfield woman. The man has also been charged with possession of a stun gun. The woman, who was found in a distressed state near a golf course by a passing motorist, suffered minor injuries and received medical treatment.

Jainal Miah and Kokilan Thangalingham have been jailed for seven years and for four years and eight months, respectively, after robbing and sexually assaulting two prostitutes in Leicester. The pair threatened the victims with what appeared to be a gun on 3 July, 2010, taking their belongings and cash before sexually assaulting them.

Leon Wright and Conrad Vaughan have been jailed for seven and five years, respectively, after police found a loaded semi-automatic pistol and £100,000 worth of heroin in their Nottingham flat. Wright was convicted of possession with intent to supply and Vaughan for possession of a prohibited weapon and ammunition. The pair had been arrested along with a third man on 2 December, 2010 but he was found not guilty.

Adrian Dejager and Roy McDermott have each been jailed for five years after being convicted of possession of prohibited firearms. The pair, labeled 'alcoholics' by the judge, used pellet guns to threaten families while drunk outside a bus stop in Beddington, south London on 1 August, 2010.
