A man dropped a ball-bearing gun in Whitchurch, Shropshire, when he was disturbed by police.  He got into a car which the police followed for seven miles but they lost him in Whixall.

A self-loading 12 bore shotgun and ammunition were stolen from a car in Empingham, Leicestershire.

An 11-year-old boy from Leicester shot a school bus supervisor in the neck with a pellet gun after she had told him off earlier in the day.  He was arrested the following day.  He has pleaded guilty to assault and causing someone to fear violence while in possession of an imitation firearm.  He will be electronically tagged for the next three months and will have to meet with the youth offending team regularly for the next 18 months.

A cat was left with severe injuries after being shot with an airgun in Ferndown, Dorset.  The pellets had gone through his spleen and intestine.

John McDermott sparked a ten-hour grenade siege in a street in Partick, Glasgow.  He barricaded himself into his flat with a three-year-old girl in September 2010 (see Incidents).  Grenades were thrown out of the window and a gas-powered ball-bearing gun and magazine were seen on top of a nearby bus stop.  He has pleaded guilty to assaulting his wife and police officers and admitted breaching the peace by throwing items out of the window, shouting and swearing and holding a knife to his throat.  He was jailed for four years (Herald, 28 January 2011).

Police found a stun gun and drugs after raiding the home of Andrew Vickers in Scunthorpe, Lincolnshire.  He admitted various drug offences and possessing a prohibited weapon.  He was given a six-month suspended prison sentence and a 30-day curfew.

Gersham Williams pointed a pistol at police officers after a burglary of a garage in East Reading, Berkshire, went wrong in July 2010 (see August 2010 Incidents).  He was convicted for having a firearm with intent to resist arrest and possession of a prohibited weapon.  He had admitted one count of burglary.  He has been sentenced to 12 years in jail (Reading Post, 18 January 2011).

Jevgenij Kizajev held his elderly neighbour at gunpoint for six days to steal his victim's bank details.  The man was left malnourished, dehydrated and suffering from kidney failure in his flat in Hull, Humberside.  Kizajev admitted robbery and false imprisonment and was jailed for ten years.

A man was shot in the throat when a police firearm was discharged during an operation in Eltham, south-east London.  His injuries are not thought to be life threatening.  The police were attending a commercial address as part of a pre-planned armed raid.  Five people, including the injured man, were arrested.

Four men armed with guns and knives assaulted a man in his home in Loughton, Essex.  They stole several thousand pounds from a safe.  The victim received minor injuries.
