Douglas Wright removed a gun and bullets from a crime scene in Rayleigh, Essex, where a man had been shot in the head in September 2009. Grant Westgarth took the gun and bullets and hid them from the police. The victim survived but still has a bullet lodged inside his head. Wright was the man's cleaner and told the court he had been asked by Westgarth and another man to hide the gun. Wright admitted perverting the course of justice and was jailed for eight months. Westgarth who handed himself into the police with the gun admitted possession of a prohibited firearm, and possession of ammunition without a firearms certificate and was jailed for 18 months. The judge told them that they had both hindered a police investigation into a very serious offence.
